About the Expert

A native of Texas, Zoila Reyna Barrera has been a vital member of the robotic revascularization team alongside Dr. Sudhir Srivastava. She obtained her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Physician Assistant Program, Midland, Texas in 2001. As a physician assistant, Reyna has been the tableside assistant in more than 370 beating heart totally endoscopic coronary revascularization procedures since June 2002. In July 2007, Reyna moved to Chicago, Illinois, to help launch the Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery program at the University of Chicago Medical Center. She has participated in more than 1000 robotic cardiothoracic surgical procedures.

She moved to Atlanta with Dr. Srivastava to be part of a world class robotic cardiothoracic surgery program at Saint Joseph's Hospital and to share her vast knowledge and experience with others as an instructor with the International College of Robotic Surgery. She continues to be actively involved in all clinical aspects of patient care including, pre- and post-operative care and patient teaching. In addition, she participates in data collection and writing of publications. Reyna is a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants.
